Hold the Word is 100% free and will stay free. There are no ads, subscriptions, or paid feature gates. You can use the core app without creating an account.

Voice test
Allow microphone and speech-recognition access when prompted. Speech setup may download an Apple language model the first time. Audio is processed on device and is not saved.
Groups
Groups use six-letter codes and Apple CloudKit. Join only groups whose members you know. Weekly comparison sharing is optional and remains off until you preview and enable it.
Progress sync
Personal verse-progress sync is optional and initially off. It uses the private iCloud database. History, collections, favorites, profile information, and group membership remain local unless the relevant feature says otherwise.
Reset or restore
Reset progress from Settings only clears local practice data and turns sync off. Use the same iCloud account and enable Sync now to restore supported verse progress.
Translation availability
Hold the Word contains a curated memorization library rather than the complete Bible. Translator rights, catalog scope, and publisher terms determine which passages and editions are available.
